I would begin with the read patterns and consistency requirements. A local cache can serve frequently accessed data quickly, while a shared Redis cache keeps repeated reads away from the database. I would set explicit expiry policies, use jitter to spread refreshes and put rate limits around database fallbacks. For critical order data, the database remains the source of truth. I would test cache outages and measure latency, hit rate and database load before increasing traffic.
